For existence, breathing is the most important tool to live as it is linked to the performance of the brain. Scientifically it has been proved that human breaths about 12 to 20 breaths per minute and roughly 20000 breaths per day. It aims to create balance and harmony within the body. It also detoxifies the body and can increase the quality and quantity of the energy level.
Breathing correctly and practicing the breathing techniques correctly can do miracles but if the breathing is irregular or incorrect can be harmful for the mind and body. Rhythmic, slow and deep respiration can help the mind and makes it stress-free. If a person is suffering from irregular breathing can harm the brain and can lead to emotional, physical, and social blocks and this can lead to an unbalanced personality, conflicts, disordered lifestyle, and many other diseases. A person should learn a breathing technique correctly which benefits the body. While breathing one should first inhale, while inhaling the stomach swells out followed by the chest and while exhaling a person’s stomach goes in, followed by the chest. This is a breathing exercise that helps to take in maximum oxygen in the lungs and helps in the proper functioning of the lungs.
Breathe Yoga Types
There are many yogic breathing practices which help to balance and heal the body like Ujjayi (ocean’s breath), Nadi Shodhana (alternate nostril breathing), Shiitali Kumbhaka (the cooling breath), Sutkari Kumbhaka (the hissing breath), Bhastrika (the bellows breath), Surya Behdana (the solar breath), Chandra Bhedana(the lunar breath), Active yogic breathing.
- Ujjayi (ocean’s breath) – A person who feels irritated, frustrated, or angry this cooling pranayama can help a person to settle the mind. For practicing this a person should first inhale deeper than the normal and after that exhale through the nose and while doing exhale mouth should be closed, constricting throat muscles. If a person does this breathing yoga correctly it sounds like waves on the ocean. One should practice this under the guidance of a yoga Practitioner. This technique is very calming but it also has a heating effect, stimulating the process of oxidation. A person who is suffering from low blood pressure should not do this.
- Nadi shodhana (alternate nostril breathing) – For doing this, a person should inhale deeply through the left nostril while the right nostril should be closed with the right thumb and after that switch nostrils by closing off the left nostril and continues to exhale through the right nostril and after that do the vice versa. Do this for 3 to 5 minutes ensuring that the breathing is effortless and should focus on inflow and outflow of breath. Practicing this a person can concentrate on the work nicely and helps to become calm and remain positive.
- Shiitali Kumbhaka ( the cooling breath) – A person should fold the tongue length size after that inhales deeply through the fold, mouth, should be close and hold the breath on a count of 5 and after that exhale through the nose. This should be continued for 5 times. It helps in reducing the heat from the head, upper digestive tract, and neck. A person who is suffering from chronic constipation, asthma, and bronchitis should avoid this.
- Bhastrika (the bellows breath)- For performing this yoga, a person should first close the right nostril after that inhale twenty rapid bellows-like breaths through the left nostril and perform vice versa, after that proceed to take twenty bellows breath trough both nostril.
- Surya Behdana (the solar breath) – This breathing technique is like a nadi shodhana. For practicing this a person should inhale through the right nostril and exhale through the left nostril. This should be practiced for a minimum six breaths and a maximum for 10 minutes. A person who is suffering from hypertension, heart disease, peptic ulcer, and acidity should avoid this.
- Active yogic breathing – This yogic breathing technique should be practiced as long, slow, and deep breaths in and out through the nostril as a person walks to a moderate step. A person should try to extend the inhalation and exhalation while walking, keep the count of steps during each full inhale and exhale and try to take more than 10 steps for each to inhale and exhale. This helps in calming the breath and also an active and positive lifestyle.
Breathe Yoga or Yogic breathing techniques can help in providing great benefits to the body and improves blood circulation. It enhances the performance of the body organs. The breathing technique increases the energy level and helps in fighting against many diseases. So, a person should perform yoga daily.
